The Faculty Engagement Institute, offered in partnership with Iowa and Minnesota Campus Compact, is a two week, asynchronous learning experience for instructors interested in teaching community engaged courses.

The Institute runs January 3-14th; registration deadline for the Institute is Wednesday, December 15th

The Institute provides an in-depth training on the components and best practices of community engaged teaching and learning and walks instructors through the entire process of creating or re-designing a community engaged course. Instructors from across Campus Compact member institutions in Iowa and Minnesota will be a part of the interactive institute, giving participants a chance to connect with community engaged faculty from other colleges and universities.

The institute is free and available to any instructor (faculty or staff) at the University of Iowa.

Five modules with individual learning activities and course design exercises will be completed over the course of the two-week period:

  1. Foundations and Critical Commitments
  2. Planning and Facilitation
  3. Partnerships and Engagement
  4. Learning Outcomes and Reflection
  5. Assessment and Evaluation

University of Iowa participants will also participate in a live workshop, Thursday, January 13th, from 9-12 noon, via Zoom.

This UI-specific workshop will explore key takeaways from the asynchronous portion of the institute, discuss UI-specific resources for instructors seeking to teach community engaged courses, and discuss implementation next steps for Institute participants.
