University Impact: Thousands of hours of collaboration occur each year between faculty, staff, and students at the University of Iowa and community partners across the state. These partnerships result in projects, research, performances, events, and workshops that help build a brighter future for the university and our state.

Engaged Teaching and Learning: Community-engaged learning is a pedagogical approach to teaching courses that integrates community engagement into coursework. Often called service learning, community-engaged learning is a broader term used to describe the creation of mutually beneficial partnerships that go beyond direct service. Our office supports Community Engaged Courses (CEC) for students through resources, best practices, and technical assistance for faculty and instructors.

Engaged Research and Scholarship: Community-engaged research and scholarship provide opportunities for faculty, staff, and students to fulfill this mission, enhancing the communities in which we live through essential contributions to the arts, the sciences, healthcare, economic development, and the humanities. Our office supports graduate students and researchers through the Graduate Engagement Corps (GEC) and publishing and conference opportunities.

Engagement and the Arts: With its top-ranked arts programs, the University of Iowa attracts some of the best students and faculty in the country. The Office of Community Engagement (OCE) is committed to working with faculty and students to advance their art practices and sharing the UI’s arts resources with the rest of the state through Arts Share and the Grant Wood Art Colony

Professional Development: The Office of Community Engagement hosts workshops throughout the year to enhance professional development and explore topics related to the field of community engagement. Here you will find recordings of past workshops and conferences.
