Jan serves as Community Engagement Manager in the Office of Community Engagement, where she advances strategic initiatives that strengthen community engagement at the University of Iowa. Her work includes overseeing the Community-Engaged Course (CEC) designation, coordinating the Undergraduate and Graduate Engagement Corps (UEC and GEC), and supporting the Community Engagement Network (CEN), among other initiatives. Jan teaches a First-Year Seminar on community engagement, Beyond Volunteering: Changing Your World Through Community Engagement, as well as an online, asynchronous course, Foundations of Community Engagement. She brings a long-standing background in education and the arts to her role. Jan earned her bachelor’s degree in Music Education and Art History from Michigan State University and her master’s degree in Counselor Education, with a specialization in College Student Development, from the University of Iowa.
