Take part in a community-created work of art - The Bee Project.

Grant Wood Printmaking Fellow Elena V. Smyrniotis offers an exciting art project that you can do independently in your community.  In 2021, participants connected their bees with the swarm and became part of large community installations celebrating the importance of bees in the Czech Village/New Bohemia Main Street District and the Indian Creek Nature Center.

The slides linked below include a video about the importance of bees and ideas and instructions on how to make your own bee. This project is intended for use in the classroom or at home, by people of all ages.

Contact Maura Pilcher at maura-pilcher@uiowa.edu if you would like the Bee Project to come to your community. This project was made possible through a collaboration between the Grant Wood Art Colony, the UI Office of Community Engagement, the Indian Creek Nature Center, and the Czech Village/New Bohemia Main Street District.
