M. Charlene Stevens was born and raised in Los Angeles, received her B.A. in art history, criticism and conservation from UCLA, and subsequently studied art education and photography and film at California State University-Los Angeles and the University of Leiden in the Netherlands. In 2016 she founded Arcade Project (@apzine), an online publication featuring exhibition reviews, artist interviews, and media criticism. During the height of the pandemic, she launched Arcade Project Curatorial (@arcadeproject_curatorial) during the height of the pandemic. She is an art critic who has contributed to Hyperallergic and Foam Magazine.
